The Song of the Happy Shepherd

The woods of Arcady are dead➀,
And over is their antique joy;
Of old the world on dreaming fed;
Grey Truth is now her painted toy➁;
Yet still she turns her restless head:
But O,sick children of the world,
Of all the many changing things
In dreary dancing past us whirled,
To the cracked tune that Chrono sings➂,
Words alone are certain good.
Where are now the warring kings,
Word be-mockers? —By the rood,
Where are now the warring kings?
An idle word is now their glory,
By the stammering schoolboy said,
Reading some entangled story:
The kings of the old time are dead;
The wandering earth herself may be
Only a sudden flaming word,
In changing space a moment heard,
Troubling the endless reverie.
Then nowise worship dusty deeds,
Nor seek,for this is also sooth➃,
To hunger fiercely after truth,
Lest all thy toiling only breeds
New dreams, new dreams; there is no truth
Saving in thine own heart.Seek,then,
No learning from the starry men,
Who follow with the optic glass
The whirling ways of stars that pass—
Seek,then,for this is also sooth,
No word of theirs—the cold star-bane
Has cloven and rent their hearts in twain,
And dead is all their human truth.
Go gather by the humming sea
Some twisted,echo-harbouring shell,
And to its lips thy story tell,
And they thy comforters will be,
Rewarding in melodious guile
Thy fretful words a little while,
Till they shall singing fade in ruth
And die a pearly brotherhood;
For words alone are certain good:
Sing,then,for this is also sooth.
I must be gone: there is a grave
Where daffodil and lily wave,
And I would please the hapless faun,
Buried under the sleepy ground,
With mirthful songs before the dawn.
His shouting days with mirth were crowned;
And still I dream he treads the lawn,
Walking ghostly in the dew,
Pierced by my glad singing through,
My songs of old earth's dreamy youth:
But ah! she dreams not now;dream thou!
For fair are poppies on the brow:
Dream,dream,for this is also sooth.

古老的欢声也随之绝响;
红尘仍绚丽而又彷徨;
如今都已成为过眼云烟;

The Stolen Child

Where dips the rocky highland
Of Sleuth Wood in the lake➀,
There lies a leafy island
Where flapping herons wake
The drowsy water-rats;
There we've hid our faery vats,
Full of berries
And of reddest stolen cherries.
Come away,O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery,hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you
can understand.

Where the wave of moonlight glosses
The dim grey sands with light,
Far off by furthest Rosses➁
We foot it all the night,
Weaving olden dances,
Mingling hands and mingling glances
Till the moon has taken flight;
To and fro we leap
And chase the frothy bubbles,
While the world is full of troubles
And is anxious in its sleep.
Come away,O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery,hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you
can understand.

Where the wandering water gushes
From the hills above Glen-Car➂,
In pools among the rushes
That scarce could bathe a star,
We seek for slumbering trout
And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away,O human child!
To to waters and the wild
With a faery,hand in hand,
For to world's more full of weeping than you
can understand.

Away with us he's going,
The solemn-eyed:
He'll hear no more the lowing
Of the calves on the warm hillside
Or the kettle on the hob
Sing peace into his breast,
Or see the brown mice bob
Round and round the oatmeal-chest.
For be comes,the human child,
To the waters and the wild
With a faery,hand in hand,
from a world more full of weeping than he
can understand.

把梦中的水鼠惊醒;

手挽着手,目光相望;
追逐那水花气泡;

带着忧郁的眼神;

Down by the Salley Gardens

Down by the salley gardens my love and I did meet;
She passed the salley gardens with little snow-white feet.
She bid me take love easy,as the leaves grow on the tree;
But I,being young and foolish,with her would not agree.

In a field by the river my love and I did stand,
And on my leaning shoulder she laid her snow-white hand.
She bid me take life easy,as the grass grows on the weirs;
But I was young and foolish,and now I'm full of tears.

她要我把爱情看淡,就像树长叶那样自然;

她要我把人生看淡,就像坝上草那样自然;

To the Rose upon the Rood of Time

Red Rose, proud Rose,sad Rose of all my days!
Come near me,while I sing the ancient ways:
Cuchulain battling with the bitter tide➁;
The Druid,grey,wood-nurtured,quiet-eyed,
Who cast round Fergus dreams,and ruin untold➂;
And thine own sadness,whereof stars,grown old
In dancing silver-sandalled on the sea,
Sing in their high and lonely melody.
Come near,that no more blinded by man's fate,
I find under the boughs of love and hate,
In all poor foolish things that live a day,
Eternal beauty wandering on her way.

Come near,come near,come near—Ah,leave me still
A little space for the rose-breath to fill!
Lest I no more hear common things that crave;
The weak worm hiding down in its small cave,
The field-mouse running by me in the grass,
And heavy mortal hopes that toil and pass;
But seek alone to hear the strange things said
By God to the bright hearts of those long dead,
And learn to chaunt a tongue men do not know.
Come near;I would,before my time to go,
Sing of old Eire and the ancient ways:
Red Rose,proud Rose,sad Rose of all my days.

勇敢的库胡林搏击惊涛,力斗骇浪;
可他却设计了弗格斯的梦魇,将其掠夺一空;

听不到沉重艰险的希望跋涉而行;

The Lake Isle of Innisfree

I will arise and go now,and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there,of clay and wattles made:
Nine bean-rows will I have there,a hive for the honey-bee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.

And I shall have some peace there,for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight's all a glimmer,and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet's wings.

I will arise and go now,for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway,or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart's core.

我要用泥巴和枝条,在那建一个小屋;

会从那清晨的薄雾中弥漫至蟋蟀歌唱的地方;

听到湖水日夜在轻轻拍打着岸边;

When You Are Old

When you are old and gray and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire,take down this book,
And slowly read,and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once,and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you➁,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur,a little sadly,how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

那是多么的柔美,闪烁着幽静和悠扬;

直爱至你容颜悄逝那淡淡的忧伤;

The White Birds

I would that we were,my beloved,white birds on the foam of the sea!
We tire of the flame of the meteor,before it can fade and flee;
And the flame of the blue star of twilight,hung low on the rim of the sky,
Has awakened in our hearts,my beloved,a sadness that may not die.

A weariness comes from those dreamers,dew-dabbled,the lily and rose;
Ah,dream not of them,my beloved,the flame of the meteor that goes,
Or the flame of the blue star that lingers hung low in the fall of the dew:
For I would we were changed to white birds on the wandering foam: I and you!

I am haunted by numberless islands,and many a Danaan shore,
Where Time would surely forget us,and Sorrow come near us no more;
Soon far from the rose and the lily and fret of the flames would we be,
Were we only white birds,my beloved,buoyed out on the foam of the sea!

To Ireland in the Coming Times

Know,that I would accounted be
True brother of a company
That sang,to sweeten Ireland's wrong,
Ballad and story,rann and song;
Nor be I any less of them,
Because the red-rose-bordered hem➀
Of her,whose history began
Before God made the angelic clan,
Trails all about the written page.
When Time began to rant and rage
The measure of her flying feet
Made Ireland's heart begin to beat;
And Time bade all his candles flare
To light a measure here and there;
And may the thoughts of Ireland brood
Upon a measured quietude.

Nor may I less be counted one
With Davis,Mangan,Ferguson➁,
Because,to him who ponders well,
My rhymes more than their rhyming tell
Of things discovered in the deep,
Where only body's laid asleep.
For the elemental creatures go
About my table to and fro,
That hurry from unmeasured mind
To rant and rage in flood and wind;
Yet he who treads in measured ways
May surely barter gaze for gaze.
Man ever journeys on with them
After the red-rose-bordered hem.
Ah, faerics,dancing under the moon,
A Druid land,a Druid tune!

While stiIl I may,I write for you
The love I lived,the dream I knew.
From our birthday,until we die,
Is but the winking of an eye;
And we,our singing and our love,
What measurer Time has lit above,
And all benighted things that go
About my table to and fro,
Are passing on to where may be,
In truth's consuming ecstasy,
No place for love and dream at all;
For God goes by with white footfall.
I cast my heart into my rhymes,
That you,in the dim coming times,
May know how my heart went with them
After the red-rose-bordered hem.

这便使爱尔兰之心开始跳动;

不过是白驹过隙;
一切阻挠必将灭败;

Into the Twilight

Out-worn heart,in a time out-worn,
Come clear of the nets of wrong and right;
Laugh,heart,again in the grey twilight,
Sigh,heart,again in the dew of the morn.

Thy mother Eire is always young➀,
Dew ever shining and twilight grey;
Though hope fall from you and love decay,
Burning in fires of a slanderous tongue.

Come,heart,where hill is heaped upon hill:
For there the mystical brotherhood
Of sun and moon and hollow and wood
And river and stream work out their will;

And God stands winding his lonely horn,
And time and the world are ever in flight;
And love is less kind than the grey twilight,
And hope is less dear than the dew of the morn.

The Song of Wandering Aengus

I went out to the hazel wood,
Because a fire was in my head,
And cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread;
And when white moths were on the wing,
And moth-like stars were flickering out,
I dropped the berry in a stream
And caught a little silver trout.

When I had laid it on the floor
I went to blow the fire aflame,
But something rustled on the floor,
And some one called me by my name:
It had become a glimmering girl
With apple blossom in her hair
Who called me by my name and ran
And faded through the brightening air.

Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands,
I will find out where she has gone,
And kiss her lips and take her hands;
And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.

栓上钩线,穿上一个草莓;

又是谁在把我喊叫;

我要亲吻她,紧紧握住她的手;
