what I came to see

the rivers the moments of gardens

all the roads that led here

the smiles of recognition

and have looked through the glasses

my mother was wearing when she died

另外，习惯解诗(解剖诗体)的我，感觉这里（尤其前半部分）有不少与“伊甸园”相关的指涉。譬如开始的You only ones/ I ever knew，一双眼睛是否就是亚当和夏娃堕落尘世的化身呢？或者说，他们在地上繁衍的后代承继了他们的这份gift. 而knew就是那the Tree of Knowledge, 罪也在它，人的福分也在于它。至于后面的 the beginning和leaving，大概既是指个体生命的开始与结束，也是指人类自堕落以后的整个历史。而余下的summer, rivers, gardens, roads似乎也都是昔日伊甸园的风貌。
