Tr. by J. Lohmar

There was always a good-looking figure in the crowd

There was always a good-looking figure in the crowd
Deer-faced, she was easily
Recognized at just a glance
There was another good-looking man in the crowd
The collar of his overcoat stood
separating him from the crowd with his body profile
In the crowd of times
There was always someone at odds with the masses
As calm and composed as most of the crowd were
They were slightly nervous
Vivid faces
Retained the characteristics of animals
Alert, ashamed, and self-esteemed
These figures
sparked as flickering fire
And appeared like spies in the crowd
In long stockings of colored stripes
and white tennis shoes
She turned, and turned her head around
Looking for another good-looking figure
In the crowd

Five people in total

They had a total of five people
There wasn’t the sixth
They moved close swiftly from one end
Neat and well-trained
Yet seemingly quiet
Carrying tools such as pliers, wrenchs and alike
in their hands
The tools were like strange children
With grease glittering
They gathered together
I couldn’t hear what they said
Some twenty-seven years olds
They were in blue overalls
Pants loose, and plump-faced
There they stood that
Reminded me with an old movie
They were exactly five people
Speaking the lines on stage in a low and muffled voice
That floated in the wind
I walked into them
There were five people in total
Now joined by me
A man in his suit
A total of six
Makes it complete

Birds in the woods

My father sank in his deep sleep in the mountains, I got up in the dark
I heard the forest birds in the nest speaking quietly: “Dawn is soon to come,
The son is coming to his father.”
I stepped on the leaves, like a thief in the world
I escaped from the saddened mother when the sky was dim lit
Parent birds and their children crowded together in the nest, holding a meeting of theirs
They talked about me and my father: “that person lost his father
Who is going to feed him? Who shall give him the wings?”
I heard them fanning their wings, dawn illuminated their pointed rostrum and their pink claws
“There he comes, that person is coming -
There is no tears on his face, but he seems sleepless like a poor black doggie.”
I went on, they tracked me and flew over my head
They chattered about me - “he knelt down and down,
and a stream of tears is glittering on his face...... ”

All that have gone ......

What are all that have gone?
A new lock hangs on the door of the courtyard home in the Chestnut Mountains
Trembling hands in the dark
Cannot insert the key into the keyhole
I know all that have gone
Will never return
Holding a flashlight, my brother
Cuts the branches at night
The trees will grow wildly again when spring comes
The breath of my mother lives in the empty house
I believe until the day when I'm old
All the wonderful memories
Will fill my aged body
New lock rusted, new grave old
I will return home
To bring all the passed back

Glasses have salt

Returned from hometown
Glasses have salt
That's the tears of my mother
A man can only burst into tears
When he's all alone
He can be naked
When he's in his dreams
He was free
Only when he was a baby
When he could truly belong to his mother
Sitting on the chair she often sat
I ate her meal for her
at New Year's Eve
The salt on my glasses
was her tears
Gushing out for the sad world
She who's dead
Is still in the dark
Crying secretely

Istanbul horse

It is in Turkey
The Equestrian Club
in Estanbul
A Young Mother
Holds a horse
The grasses at her feet
Are like green felt blanket
White clouds float in the sky
Her autistic child
Sitting on the horseback, laughs
The body temperature of the horse is higher than human's
The child feels the warmth
This is a slender horse
Neck stretched
Body long
Tail dragged on the ground
The horse face is like still water
as if it's an unhappy
Autistic horse

Deer park spring and autumn

The park had changed little
The buckhorns shook inside
I couldn't see the deer
They had changed their faces
Among them, old faces hidden
as if my father
Quietly stood in the distance
I couldn't see my father
But he could see me
I helped my mother
Go to the deer park in the dream
my family was reunited
under the tree covered with pine needles
The deer ran over to us
I knelt half way down
Touching its neck
The deer stretched out his tongue and licked my chin
There was a moment when the hot deer face
Affixed to my right cheek
Its thin limbs trembled
The grass at its feet was turning green
Gentle eyes everywhere
Deer's affection spreading in the air
I held my mother
walked out of the deer park
