1992

1.STATUS QUO

I departed from water and its homeland
A dry bright fish tanned in the sun

I throw myself into the world
As a twig awaiting for transplantation

I could not complete my writing
Nor able as my life, year after year

I would be God descending onto paper
Or grains of rice germinating in each family

I would be the wind to revive the wings of a bird
I would be the raw juice to swell ripe wheat

I would be the sweat to penetrate mind
I would be an imagination returning to sharp fire

1992

1992

2. LIFE

Disease pushes me toward the vast marshes
Body is yellow, let alone face and gaunt hand

Heart drives mind rambling in the open sky
There break out hate, love and fantasy

Free and graceful, even my sweat gland
I invite stars to collocate the mystery of letters

Genius moves through brain toward forehead
From hair root to painless nail, into the heart

My pain is the global pain
Many a disease is one disease

I create bird’s language to extol mankind
Blissfully releasing bodies from suffering

Deeply inspired by the pains experienced
I devote myself to the human abyss in smile

1992

3. LIGHTHOUSE

Riverbank silent in winter evening, few stays
I read my homestead alone in my dreamland
A hand raised suddenly, touches the heaven:

A beam of light radiating from you, lighthouse!

Thrusting in the dark, the light is flown with dust
Brightening river route and winged insects
Soon encompassing all and pacifying the soul
A bit burdened is my eternal thinking

By the side of peaceful route
There berth a fleet of ships at half-mast
They stand as furious skeletons
Indifferent to your bright sight
They have reached a destination for business

Submerged in currents of people, in a cyclic danger
I have no way to climb within the surging water
My arm does nothing other than signal:

“Over here, lighthouse, can you yet see me?”

So elated for me to see you, my lighthouse
Such extravagance to touch your light yet
Another fantastic wish is to be held in your bosom
Enlightening the internal darkness, yours and mine!

4. STATUE

One statue after another, even more
keep watch on a bridge, a castle and the medieval plaza
blackened, broken yet much sacred
high above water shed leaves golden with sunshine

Wings acquired, nose and mouth breathe more
Whenever close to you, fingers touch off
light towards the riverbank, further into the soul

Perish or survive, from wars many times
A wintry breeze fumbles your face
across the scars, through their inner wound
Skins absorb all sunshine
More than a statue, no longer, forever

Far from the distance, fly through night and daybreak
push open the door, look up again and again
yet unable to reach Heaven, even that on earth

So many statues, bronze, stone or clay
submerged in time’s vision, still deep in mind
Birds fly beyond the multicolored forest
Passengers rush out of the metro, in haste, at twilight

2002/11/6,PRAHA

5. THE RED-TILE ROOF IN SOUTH BOHEMIA

Beyond the forest of Bohemia
Extending south, ever further
There appears a red-tile roof, bright flaky roofline
The blue Danube flows silently
Through the continent, through the time

Easy to reach the stretch of land
Just exert a bit of yourself
But it is more than taking a midnight flight
To enter into the passage of civilization

Bohemia flutters in imagination
Crystals glittering with sunshine
A typical mind, avant-garde or romantic
A river produces a city
With banks from left to right

Overlook the Gothic church to the west
Far to the south, reach
The palaces of Hellas, Rome and Renaissance

The flaky red-tile roofline, bright in the sunshine
Encircled with streams beyond the forests,
A beam of Bohemian light, piercing the night
Moistens the ordinary life
Further evolving the free hearts of Bobos

2002/11/08,South Bohemia

2002

6. HOMELAND

A coast extends further, physically zigzagged
Winds flitting over ripples of water
Whose eyes could reach the inward homeland?

Once frosty snow after stormy rain
Instinctive desires flow vigorously
From fringes and skirts, through the heart
A sandstorm  of locusts draws near the village
Beyond the limit of seasons
Where is the homeland? Where is the dead-end?

Tides ebb and flow, day after day
A coast extends ever outwards
Life is the undying flame within heart
Homeland is homeland forever
No matter of warmth or decline
Flowers fallen, water flowing with time

Once clear waters around green hills
A twinkling star flies over ferry
Across wells and banks, into fields
The homing birds close in couples
Turn to the inland of the coast at dusk
Who could reach the former homeland?

A coast extends ever further, free and ancient
The flowing water floods all the wounds
Whose eyes could reach the inward homeland?

2001

7.CATASTROPHE, NOT FAR AWAY

There burst out “9/11 crash ”in New York, USA., in which
thousands of innocent citizens were either wounded or killed.
The global community is in an uproar…, but it silently evolves
as a far-ranging retaliatory action. What’s the original reason?
Where is the virtuous heart? I dedicate this poem to peace-loving
people worldwide. The first stanza was finished at midnight. Half
an hour later, the American B-52 bombing planes flew across the
ocean for an air attack on Afghanistan.

Catastrophe, not far away, its smoke
higher than the skyscrapers
Souls have no way to escape, flesh and blood
flying lower to the west
from horror to pain, even to enmity
Mind inclines to action
to death, brief and forever

An oriental region cradles a dolorous heart
his warm spine bent in original sin
bodily fluids grimy, skin more gloomy
The flashing moment catches global eyes
puzzled hands unclench their benefit
living eyes turn to the virtuous heart
searching the reason behind events across the seas

The sky haunted in nightmare
echoes the last word from mobiles
More tears pour down to the ocean, more people
without home to return, more famine
more guilt lurks behind life
Catastrophe, absolutely not far away
Peace still has a long way to go before reaching free hearts

2002

8. CRIME TOUCHABLE

Crime touchable, there spreads a prophesy
from ocean to continent
anthrax along the post road

A notorious soul of oriental origin
vulgar deep in heart, in a free wind
flew across mountains and rivers
but lost in a rift of double civilizations
his depressive desires blink as virus
swollen with his great success
zoom out his vanity on forehead
further to poison virtuous men

Crime touchable, there spreads a prophesy
from inside toward outside
choked with panic smoke

A tortuous soul of oriental return
effluvial in his laboratory
vitiates the human affection
mind far from body
madcap tongue mutates with virus
his curse of an unnatural death
imperils the innocent with free heart
finally retributive on himself

Crime touchable, there spreads a prophesy
either yesterday or tomorrow
mushroom clouds gathered with wind

2002

No Bombing! No War!

2003

9. BAGHDAD

Cluster bombs’ smoke again rising from you
Peace failing beyond anticipation
Distance and death within blitzkrieg
Move with twining rivers and desert

Notorious fields of vision
Revolt against the existent truth
Flames of war break through the battle lines
Imaginings as yet unable to reach the heart

Disputes within a period of time
Confuse day and night
Eyes flash with horror and suffering
Life holds his ground, without end result

No Bombing!No War!
Beyond hegemony and tyranny
Rises the antiwar cry, one wave after another
When shall it spread to the far reaches of civilization?

2003

2003

10. SARADIN

A precisely guided missile
Hit the heart of Saradin
Instant blooming blood high in the sky

A war within mankind
Revolts to inner flagrance
The sandstorm obscures the finitude

Saradin, once a national pride
Where to find your vestige
When to rebuild your refulgence

The descendant of Saradin
Veils his face, blushed with shame
Flaming dander sweeps the oil field

Hero Saradin, now in the Heaven
overlooks his hometown Saradin
suffering from the war, day after day

2003

2003

11. NO GAME BUT A WAR

Frightened aigrettes, once and again
Flushed out of the Tigris River
Long-range missiles, one after another
Flying over the Persian Gulf
The same flight, the same elegance
Bloody is the desert with the setting sun

Horrified children cry out their hearts
Babylon Prison vanished earlier
Tulwar triumph arch, tossed in sandstorm
The juvenile of the Electron Era
Plays homicidal games on computers
On Internet roams the violent phantom

Islam never accepts tears as credo!
Allah, only Allah guides the Prophet
At risk of his soul buried afar
A game within dictator and politician
Exterminates all the existent rules
Beauty and infamy, justice and crime

2003
--Five anti-war poems (7-11), published on UNESCO-EOLSS Encyclopedia (2004)

2003

12. GRIEF

Incessant grief prevails in my heart
On the verge of a city, I wander to perish alone
Resistant to the haunting call at midnight
Overlooking the mysterious deepwater now ashore
I lament over minds lost in the dark
Over the ruined courtyard, rarely echoes true emotion
Over the rough and tedious road to a return to Nature

My grief is derived from you, from my soul
The boundless world, but for peace and welfare
God is my heart
My grief, as bright poetry affronted by brutal reality
Reaches the forbidden area, beyond time, beyond sea
Finally inclines to eternity, as a volcano to eruption !

(Revised by Robin Suri,poet/editor)
